U-G-L-Y…UGLY. Stocks tumble over 3% (Nasdaq down -3.8%) on the day

Dow down close to -800 points.   Nasdaq down -3.8%. 

Ouch. The stock market price action was U-G-L-Y… UGLY today.  

The major indices all fell over 3% on the day.

  • S&P index fell -90.31 points or -3.24% at 2700.06.  The high reached 2785.93. The low extended to 2697.18
  • Nasdaq index fell -283.08 points or 3.80% at 7158.42. The high reached 7421.109. The l low extended to 7150.10
  • Dow industrial average closed down -799.36 points or you-3.10% at 25027. The high reached 25773. The low extended to 25008 
  • The Russel index had its worst day since November 2011. It fell -4.2%
  • The Vix – somewhat surprisingly – rose to 20.74 but did not run. It has been higher over the last 3 months (see chart below).

  • Qquare, -11.77%
  • AMD, -10.92%
  • micron, -7.87%
  • Nvidia, -7.60%
  • Caterpillar, -6.92%
  • General Electric, -6.66% (oh no… Not that number).
  • Amazon, -5.87%
  • Intuitive surgical, -5.49%
  • Bank of America, -5.43%
  • Netflix, -5.16%
  • Morgan Stanley, -5.06%
  • Boeing, -4.76%

Any winners among the bigger names:

  • Procter & Gamble, +0.01%
  • Tesla, +0.34%
  • J&J, unchanged.
  • Verizon, -0.05%

That’s about it.
